Pizza My Mind Presented by Swisslog

On March 8th, the Department of Physics, Computer Science and Engineering welcomed representatives from Swisslog to present at Pizza My Mind. Swisslog is a global logistics company headquartered in Switzerland that specializes in intralogistics, the moving of products and other items inside warehouses and distribution centers. As a logistics company, Swisslog works with a wide variety of industries including pharmaceuticals, food and beverage, and retail. Speakers included Mike Brogan, David Bates, Ayush Khandelwal, Leslie Bailey, and Whittany Bayse.

Due to the diverse nature of intralogistics, Swisslog works with a wide range of technologies that help to automate material handling capabilities in the warehouse. In order to design and operate those tools, technology employees at Swisslog work in agile teams that include 4 software engineers and 2 software quality assurance engineers.

While many companies struggled during the COVID pandemic, Swisslog has thrived thanks to the automated nature of their products. As a result, Swisslog is able to offer a wide variety of benefits to their employees and seeks to promote within. For new hires, Swisslog has an outstanding training program, the Global Software Trainee Program, that allows new Swisslog employees to spend 6 weeks training in Germany.

Swisslog is currently hiring recent college graduates to their local agile teams. Candidates should have experience with web interface basics, Java and Eclipse as well as Oracle and SQL Server Management systems; however, the most important quality they are looking for is the ability to be a self-starter and willingness to learn. Anyone interested can reach out to michael.brogan@swisslog.com or check the Swisslog website for more information.

Thank you to Michael Brogan, David Bates, Ayush Khandelwal, Leslie Bailey, and Whittany Bayse for taking the time to speak with us about opportunities at Swisslog.

Pizza My Mind Presented by Swisslog

On April 8, the Physics, Computer Science and Engineering department hosted Swisslog at Pizza My Mind. Swisslog is headquartered in Switzerland and has offices all over the world with their North American headquarters located right here in Newport News, VA. Specializing in logistical automation for warehouses, Swisslog serves customers from retailers like Walmart and Target to medical companies like Pfizer. Swisslog is working to shape the future of intralogistics through data driven, robotic, flexible automated solutions to best serve their customers. Presenters Brian Stroup, Manager, Solution Architecture and CNU Alum, and Joan Negron, Human Resources Assistant, joined the department to talk about the opportunities available at Swisslog.

Swisslog’s Software, Controls, and Integration Unit specializes in the non-mechanical and non-civil engineering portions of projects. This unit is the perfect fit for students studying computer science or computer engineering. Swisslog fosters a culture of diversity and great teams working together. Brian Stroup talked about having a multitude of opportunities to travel before COVID-19. He was able to meet with other Swisslog teams in other countries and attend trade shows to see what other companies are developing as well as present on Swisslog technologies.

Swisslog is looking for students to join their internship program who are studying computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, information systems, business administration, and physics. Internships are paid, and interns work alongside full time employees on real projects, solving real problems. Swisslog also has full time opportunities for recent graduates.

Please reach out to Joan Negron at  joan.negron@swisslog.com for more information about the opportunities available at Swisslog.

Thank you to Brian Stroup and Joan Negron for your informative presentation about Swisslog!

Pizza My Mind Presented by Swisslog

Swisslog presented Pizza My Mind on November 14th. Swisslog is an automation integration company with North American headquarters right here in Newport News. They are a global presence, owned by a German company with main headquarters in Switzerland. Swisslog has many customers including large companies like Walmart.

Not only are there cool full time positions at Swisslog, but they also have internships available to all majors. These internships often come with a path to a full time position with Swisslog. You can join the many CNU alumni already working at Swisslog! Presenters shared the many cool things that come along with working at Swisslog. As earlier stated, Swisslog is a global company, so there are many travel opportunities as an employee. If you happen to not like what you’re doing, there is mobility within the company, so you can try something different and find where you fit best. Additionally, you get to work near amazing robots, big cranes, and all sorts of automated systems. The presenters really emphasized just how cool these things are to work with. In addition, there are Hackathon opportunities for Swisslog employees.

Big thank you to the presenters from Swisslog!
